"I make figurative ceramic sculptures portraying creatures that are a blend of human and animal. These forms are gendered outside of the socialized binary of male and female. "Moonlit Dreamers" explores how science fiction and fantasy can be used as a platform to open a discussion about the gray areas of gender identity. This interaction often sparks transformative conversations and creates visibility for those who do not fit into the binary.
Inspired by the painting "Moonlit Dreamers" by late 19th century romantic artist Gabriel Ferrier, this sculptural work melds together elements of the original painting that are grotesque and beautiful, challenging the narrative of socially acceptable beauty, femininity, and gender."
