In 1987, the priest at Santa Barbara Orthodox Church approached Corning to create a painting of their newly constructed church and produce prints and posters to sell at the annual Greek Festival. The paintings were donated by Corning to the church and turned into a twenty year long donation project. This particular watercolor is a study for a larger painting.
Skiathos is a Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea. It is best known for its beaches and buzzing, youth-driven nightlife scene. Corning shows a respite from the busyness of the island, a hidden getaway tucked into a paradise of nature.
