"This small painting was a gift for my wife Tula, probably for an anniversary. What a cheapskate. We met the two subjects at a great restaurant, Lubachs, in San Diego. We always stopped there for lunch during our visits to San Diego. It seemed like such a special treat. A couple of Manhattans, crab salad for Tula, and a nice New York cut steak for me. In those days the waiter would make your salad at the table and the baker would roll out the dessert cart after lunch. What a time."
