Best associated with the Pop art movement, Robert Indiana considers himself a “sign painter” and his simple, bold, iconic images reflect an American landscape of signage. He uses a hard-edged, unblended color palette to emphasize text. His pure form and color were inspired by his former partner, Color Field painter Ellsworth Kelly.
