Wengenroth’s work, almost exclusively in black and white, used light and shadow to convey nuance and detail in his depictions of pastoral New England settings. He would take long walks in nature, seeking out settings that spoke to him, and sketching them. He was a keen surveyor of nature and captured the essence of his scenes. His quiet observations led him to encounter this timid deer amongst the trees, a rare moment.
