A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Prunty graduated from the Cooper School of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art, finding his niche in watercolor painting. He forged a 29 year career as an illustrator and creative advertising director both in Cleveland and Los Angeles, and was a lifelong artist. Prunty worked exclusively in transparent watercolor, which allows light to pass through the pigment and reflect off of the white paper beneath it. He used this to his advantage, portraying hazy, atmospheric effects in the city settings of Cleveland. These depictions would become his signature work, with his palette reflecting the industrial hues of an aging city against the vibrant colors of nature. Prunty's award-winning work has been exhibited by the National Watercolor Society and the Ohio Watercolor Society and is part of many private and corporate collections, including The Cleveland Orchestra, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Cleveland Clinic.
