Born in 1934, Mutsuo Yanagihara lives in Japan, where he is Professor Emeritus at Osaka University of Arts since 1968. From 1966 to 1974, he taught in the United States and was a resident artist at Alfred Ceramics in New York, where this piece was made.
He uses gold luster on his pieces to comment on the decaying values of society and the corruption of Japan's political system. His work is characterized by its bright colors and anatomical, sometimes sexual vessel forms. |
