Jozsef Vudy was born in Budapest, Hungary. He was active with a group of poets, writers and artists, many of whom formed the core of the Freedom Fighters, who rose against the Communists. At first this group had many victories, but in the end, the group was put down, resulting in thousands of them fleeing the country and seeking asylum in the United States.
Vudy arrived in the States in 1957. His first job was in Pittsburgh as a sculptor for a bronze company. He moved to Youngstown in 1963 where he worked at Mount Alverna Friary of the Franciscan Fathers. He created religious sculptural work dealing with the Hungarian culture. In 1969, Vudy moved to Cleveland to work in the commercial art field as a stained glass sculptor.
In 1971, he moved to Akron where he established himself as a free-lance artist.
