| Born in Panama City, Florida, at Tyndall Air Force Base, Mark Soppeland received his BA from the University of Colorado and Masters from Ohio State University.
In his miniature carved tableaux incorporating found and manipulated objects, Soppeland adds mystery to the identifiably familiar by covering his works with minutely detailed color patterns. Soppeland says “There are many layers of paint, alterations, realizations, daydreams, fantasies, hard work, craziness and intellectualization which accompany the production of my work."
Soppeland’s approach, however, is pragmatic and mystical, concerned with the magic of the found object, a craft which allows him to explore the limits of his ability.
