Harry Hutchinson Shaw was born in Savannah, Ohio in 1897 and was active in Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, and Mexico. Shaw is known for landscape painting, illustration, block printing, and murals. He studied at the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Cleveland School of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Shaw taught at Marietta College, Ohio; Miami University, Ohio; Ball State, Muncie, Indiana; and at West Liberty State Teachers College, West Virginia. Shaw spent two winters (1939 and 1940) in the Maitland Research Studio in Maitland, Florida as a resident artist. Shaw also taught with Clyde Singer at the Ohio River School in Marietta, Ohio in 1941.
He painted murals for the Akron Public Library and the Akron Y.W.C.A., in Akron, Ohio.
