In this soft dreamlike watercolor, where do you suppose the fairies are? Or maybe we are not to find them.
Sara Wike Schneider was born in 1901. Prior to her marriage to Merlin Schneider, Wike worked as a commercial artist for Stern & Mann Co., Klein-Heffelman-Zollars Co., Kinney-Levan Co. and The Republic Stamping & Enameling Co.
The founding of The Canton Art Institute and credit for its growing success can in part be accredited to her. Schneider served as the first vice president to the newly formed CAI in 1936 and served on the Board for many years.
In 1969, Schneider was elected as an honorary member of the Board for her work and dedication to the Institute. In particular, she was dedicated to the organization of the files and the catalog system of the CMA Permanent Collection. Schneider researched the Metropolitan Museum cataloging system and modeled the CMA’s system after theirs. We still use this system today.
