Now retired in Florida, Anthony Schepis began his artistic journey in Cleveland. He studied and taught at the Cooper School for Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art, and earned his masters from Kent State University. While at the Cooper School, Schepis learned the underpainting and glazing methods of the old masters.
Technically accomplished, Schepis holds objects frozen in time and space providing a mysterious narrative. He says about his work, “Presence in all of its manifestations embodies the enigmatic. The objects that appear in my compositions include the common-place as well as the obscure. By releasing them from their original functions, they become totemic-like and evocative. These are the results of my search for the secret preciousness of all form”.
