Jerri Ricci was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and studied at the Art Students League in New York. She lived in Rockport, Massachusetts starting in the early 1940s.
Ricci considered herself a perfectionist and felt that to become an artist was hard work. She said, “when I start a watercolor, the composition is always well fixed in my mind. In fact, I often visualize the finished picture down to the last detail, but the trouble with this is that the paintings I see in my mind is always better than the one I finally am able to produce on paper, so I’m rarely satisfied, but must constantly be striving to improve and learn, eager to devote oneself to long hours at their easel. Wiling to try, try and try again…work is the ultimate necessity if one is to produce from one’s own desires the eventual masterpiece”.
