| John Mart Opie was born in Sandusky, Ohio in 1936 and attended Kent State University where he received his BFA and MFA. He taught at the Akron Art Institute School of Design in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Opie currently lives in Pennsylvania. He is known for his abstract paintings of images of jazz musicians, interiors, and landscapes.
