Robert Morrow was born in Milan, Ohio in 1917. His father, Dwight, worked with plumbing and heating while his mother, Helen, was a housewife.
At the age of nineteen, Morrow was employed in the art department of the Hinde and Dauch Paper Company in Sandusky, Ohio. In 1939 he left Hinde and Dauch to enroll in the Cleveland School of Art, now the Cleveland Institute of Art. Morrow was drafted to serve in the Army for World War II at the end of his third year at CAI. Once the war was over he came back to Cleveland in 1946 and completed his four year program in Design and Mural Painting.
In 1946, Morrow, joined the faculty of the Art Department at Kent State University as visiting artist.
