Marc Moon, son of Virgil and Mary Elizabeth Moon, was born in Akron, Ohio. Moon first became interested in painting as a child. Throughout his school years, his interest in painting intensified, although he also participated in sports. Laura Zimmerman, his high school art teacher, was the person who Moon considers to have influenced him the most with his art.
Through the years he has painted in all mediums, but Moon said: “I would have to say watercolor is my favorite medium and I enjoy executing landscapes, people and impressions”. Through the years, Moon studied with Roy Wilhelm, John Chetcuti, Joe Santoro and John Pike. Moon was accepted into the American Watercolor Society in 1963.
Frank Getlein, art critic for the “Washington Star” said, “Marc Moon is a marvelous watercolorist in the classical manner, knowing in his figures not only what to put in but especially what to leave out. The scene shifts effortlessly from a long shot of an ancient town house to a space filled view of salt marshes and salt sea, to a close-up of the forest floor, vibrant with wildflowers. One of the top watercolor painters in America…(these subjects) work their familiar gentle magic of allowing the glow that is nature, to shine through it homely surface”.
