Beverly Mayeri was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received her BA in 1967 and at the San Francisco State University where she received her MA in 1976. Mayeri has been exposed to the arts all her life. Her mother, Cora Howard is a watercolor painter, her father, Bernard Howard was an inventor and mechanical engineer. They encouraged her to take classes after school of which one happened to be clay. This early interest has lead Mayeri to study with Karen and Steve de Staebler and Jose Arguelles. Overall she feels Robert Arneson, Frida Kahlo, African masks and early Renaissance painters have influenced her work. About "Lithe Diver", Beverly said: "Lithe Diver is one of a series of pieces of swimmers on the wall, and I wanted to see what would happen if I sliced up a full figure of a swimmer and stretched him out as far as possible on the wall. It feels like he is floating in a state of suspension, that the figure has disassembled himself and is ready to reassemble into a new phase. There is a feeling of freedom, exhilaration and expansiveness in the water and isolation from daily problems yet there is an element of risk-- you can't stay in the water forever." It seems the arts are continuing within her family – her daughter has expressed an interest in film.
