| Martha Mayer Erlebacher was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Since the early 1970s, Erlebacher has continued to occupy a prominent place in the forefront of American realism. She uses still-lifes, she has said, “as a good excuse for exploring space”.
Erlebacher allows herself to comment with much insight and, in some cases, a lot of refreshing humor in both past and present day art. Whether deep or shallow, static or dynamic, frontal or tipped, the variety of spaces investigated in her still-lifes spotlight the searching and curious sensibility of this artist. Always seeking new challenges, Erlebacher believes that to the artist falls the responsibility to “shift through the chaos, rationalize it, and give people a new vision of life”.
