Maxine Masterfield, a resident of Sarasota, Florida, was born in Los Angeles, brought up in Cleveland, Ohio and is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art.
She finds inspiration in nature. Her studio is filled with collections of found rocks, geodes, fossils and skeletons that she studies to find abstract images. Her work is made with a combination of poured ink and textured materials. Masterfield describes herself as an abstract naturalist painter: “The abstract naturalist artist knows that no one scene can capture the essential reality because nature is always in a state of flux…in the end; it is the mind, not the eye that controls our vision.”
Once asked about her feelings and art: “It has been my entire involvement for the past 45 years”. Art has been her life; she is still active in several watercolor societies, written art books and has taught all over the world for the past 10 years.
