One of four children, Minerva Lynch was born in Latrobe Pennsylvania and later moved to Poland, Ohio. She was the daughter of Cameron and Rosanna Schenck Eiseman and one of four children. Lynch’s mother, who painted pictures and china, was always interested in the arts. Lynch’s grandfather achieved local standing as a designer. In the eighth grade, Lynch was awarded the honor of painting a Christmas scene on the blackboard at her school.
Throughout her life, Lynch had always been involved with the arts. After studying for two years at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, she enrolled at the Teacher’s College at Columbus University where she received her BS in Art Education. She taught art, design, costume design and interior decorating for one year at the University of Texas
Lynch once stated: “In modern art you have to paint things the way you feel about them instead of the way you see them”. Although Lynch has painted in the traditional manner she preferred to paint things the way she felt about them, working with color, balance, and a rhythm so that a painting has an emotional impact; something which was far more important to her than a visual representation.
As a well-known and active member of the community, Lynch was very proud of her gallery in Youngstown, Ohio where she introduced many regional artists.
