| Frances Lehnert was born in 1928 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She has her BA from Indian University of Pennsylvania and her MFA from Kent State University.
Through the years, Lehnert has held a number of teaching positions, including at the Kent State University Art Department. For eight and a half years she was curator of education and ceramics at the Canton Museum of Art. Lehnert worked in ceramics from 1968 until 1995; after retiring from the Museum she started to work in the medium of pastels.
