| Lambert received his BA from Pomona College in California and studied ceramics at the College of Arts and Crafts. He took numerous workshops from renowned ceramics artists such as John Glick, Peter Voulkos, Toshiko Takaezu, and Paul Soldner. He has been featured in American Craft magazine, Ceramics Monthly, and the New York Times. His work has been exhibited in various museums and galleries around the country. In 1976, he opened his own studio in Santa Cruz, California.
"Struttin' Teapot" is part of Lambert's Dancing Teapot series, where the teapot suggests the human form in motion. He also created a Java Jig and a Bebop series, all of which are lively and whimsical in nature, as if they could dance off the table at any moment. This teapot would have originally been part of a set that included a sugar and creamer. Each piece of Lambert's teapots are carefully assembled from individually cast parts. Lambert said that his work features "...a kind of elegance, but my work also has a cartoon, humorous quality that I enjoy. I love the subtle richness of thick glazes thinning on the edges of bright porcelain."
Around 2008, Lambert closed his studio, and pieces such as this one are difficult to find. |
