“Icon” dances and explodes with color right before you eyes. Remember as a child you would lay in the grass and try to see frogs, dragons and horses in the clouds – what can you find today as you look at this work.
Linda Lyke Kannel was born in Canton, Ohio. At the age of 3 her family realized she had an interest in drawing and so her family encouraged her to draw and paint.
Kannel obtained an MFA from Kent State University and taught there for seven years before moving to California. She finds that the change to the Southern California locale has had a definite influence on her work. “Both the content and the color sense of my work have changed since I’ve been here. Now I’m working with paper-making as well as print media, and this is a new medium for me,
Southern California has influenced this, as I am in touch with other artists in the area who are also making paper. The climate helps. The temperature and dryness make it easier to do hand-made paper.”
She lives outside Los Angeles on Mount Washington in an old picturesque home with her husband, children, two dogs and assortment of cats.
