William Findlay relocated to Canton in the 1920s from his native Scotland. He soon became well known for his portraits and completed many works of Canton citizens including three large oil paintings of President William McKinley which were placed in the lobby of the Onesto Hotel in Canton. One of the three paintings of McKinley’s inauguration is in the permanent collection of the McKinley Museum; the other two have never been located.
Following Findlay’s marriage to Laura Glaser in 1935, the couple made the decision to move to Los Angeles, California.
Laura Glaser was a private secretary to Mr. H. C. Milligan, president of Republic Stamping and Enamel Co. and the niece of the Reverend E. P. Herbruck.
